Department of Building Inspections

Welcome to Baldwin Borough’s Department of Building Inspection. We are here to provide as much guidance and information as possible for the health, safety, and welfare of Baldwin Borough citizens. This department addresses all business pertaining to:
  • Property maintenance complaints
  • Grading permits
  • Residential occupancy
  • Commercial fire safety inspections
  • Any type of construction

Building Permits

If you are changing the built environment on your property, please see the Building Permit page for more information.

Curious about which properties have received building permits or what types of permits have been issued lately? Check out the Building Permit Report on Open Gov, our interactive online transparency tool.

Code Enforcement & Property Maintenance

As a property owner, you are responsible for maintaining your property in compliance with Borough codes. Please see the Code Enforcement page for more information regarding how to report a concern and how to avoid the most common code violations.

Occupancy Inspections

Residential properties that are sold or have new tenants are required under Borough code to be inspected and issued an Occupancy Permit. See the Occupancy Inspection page for further details.

Zoning Ordinance

The department also deals with all zoning inquiries, ranging from shed placements to zoning district usage. The entire Baldwin Zoning Ordinance can be found online. More information can be found on the Zoning page.

Elevation Certificates

As part of new flood hazard mitigation projects, the Borough requires an elevation certificate be filled out when building a new structure or substantially adding to an existing structure. More information can be found under the Flood resource Center on the Elevation Certificate Page.
